May 2017 Runner of the Month – Christina Fohner

1) How long have you been a runner and what sparked your interest to begin running?
I started running the summer after I graduated college. I was living at the beach in NJ and just decided one day that I wanted to go running. It’s funny to say that, but it really was that simple…

2) Where are some of your favorite places to run?
I love to run by the ocean, but mostly I run in my neighborhood. The best is when my girls ride their bikes with me while I run.

3) What is your “fuel” of choice (aka pre/post workout meals, supplements, etc)? What are your favorite recovery foods after running?
I’ve been on a peanut butter with crackers kick lately. I also like the Isagenix Replenish drink.

April 2017 – Runner of the Month – Ginger Fleming

1) How long have you been a runner and what sparked your interest to begin running?
I was a track and field runner in high school but that was ages ago. I started running more frequently again in 2011. My friend Amy Unger had a friend who wanted to do the Baltimore Marathon Relay team and asked if I’d like to join “40 & Fabulous” team. My first official 5K was St. Patrick’s Day 5K at Shenanigans in 2011. The rest is history.

2) Where are some of your favorite places to run?
I really enjoy running on the boardwalk. The Across the Bay 10K is also another favorite run.

3) What is your “fuel” of choice (aka pre/post workout meals, supplements, etc)? What are your favorite recovery foods after running?

March 2017 Running of the Month – Bob Monaco

1) How long have you been a runner and what sparked your interest to begin running?
I started running 17 years ago after my nephew bet that I couldn’t run a half marathon. I started training and was instantly hooked on running! I have run 35 half marathons since! I became a triathlete 5 years ago and an Ironman two years ago.

2) Where are some of your favorite places to run?
On Long Island there is a paved and parallel dirt trail that runs from the north shore of Long Island to the south shore. It is one of my favorites to run with my German Short Haired Pointer Jake. I also love running in Central Park. But lets not forget the nice flat, paved roads of Ocean Pines!!

February 2017 Runner of the Month – Jenna Faller

1) How long have you been a runner and what sparked your interest to begin running?  I’ve been running for about 5 years now.  I really needed to lose weight, so I joined a gym and then just randomly went out to run one day (it was terrible).  But I kept with it and eventually worked my way from running a block/walking a block to a half-marathon!  Who knew?!?

2) Where are some of your favorite places to runI love running in new places when I go on vacation, but I enjoy running in different areas in Ocean Pines.  I absolutely love running on the boardwalk.  There’s nothing quite like having the ocean, sand, and waves nearby to keep me going.

3) What is your “fuel” of choice (aka pre/post workout meals, supplements, etc)? What are your favorite recovery foods after running...

January 2017 – Runner of the Month – Deb Conran

1) How long have you been a runner and what sparked your interest to begin running?
I began running in college as a stress release. I played volleyball at George Washington University so I was already physically active. We trained daily but practices didn’t help my stress. With running, I didn’t really “train” but just ran fast and far until I ran out of steam. Let me be frank- that’s not the healthiest way to go about it, but it did the job at that time.

2) Where are some of your favorite places to run?
Historically, my favorite place to run is DC- from the Lincoln Memorial, down reflecting pool and mall to the US Capital and back. Now I absolutely love running on the boardwalk.

3) What is your “fuel” of choice (aka pre/post workout meals, supplements, etc)? What are your favorite recove...

1) How long have you been a runner and what sparked your interest to begin running?

Having played sports all my life I think I’ve always been running, but as a sport itself I’ve been running since 2002.  I started in order to drop a few pounds and as an extra activity at the gym.

2) Where are some of your favorite places to run?

This is hard to say.  I enjoy running in new places, but I’m quite content running on my normal 4-mile loops near my home.  I like to mix it up and will run the trails through the City Park and will go into Ocean City to run the Boardwalk and be near the ocean.

3) What is your “fuel” of choice (aka pre/post workout meals, supplements, etc)? What are your favorite recovery foods after running?

Before a big race I eat a bagel with peanut butter and jelly wi...

1) How long have you been a runner and what sparked your interest to begin running?

I started running on-and-off while I was in college in the 1980’s.  As with many, it provided a means of weight loss and control was the initial reason that I started running but I found that it was a great way to manage or ease stress.

2) Where are some of your favorite places to run? I live in Ocean City.

I love to run here but I also enjoy running as a way to explore a new city or area that I may visit.

3) What is your “fuel” of choice (aka pre/post workout meals, supplements, etc)? What are your favorite recovery foods after running?

I do not have any real regimented pre or post workout meals or routine but before a race I do get extra rest and like to indulge in some of my favorite meals of pasta a...

June Runner of the Month – Teresa Berger

  • Photo_TBergerHow long have you been a runner and what sparked your interest to begin running?

I ran for fitness in high school and college, but consistently I would say 5 years. I have an uncle who’s run numerous New York marathons and many half marathons. I guess that was part of what sparked the interest. I’m not much of a team sports person, so running was an easy alternative.

  • Where are some of your favorite places to run?

Assateague – the bridge is great for hills…really the only place  I know of to do hill training around here! I moved here from the Philadelphia area 2 years ago, so some of my favorite spots are still up there – Pennypack Park trails, Delaware Canal Towpath, and the Powerline Trail (a 10 mile-ish paved trail that follows a power line through many neighborhoods).
